5 out of 5 stars Excellent compact sharperner   March 6, 2009

Calling it the quick fix was a stroke of genius. This is similar to those carbide kitchen knife sharpeners you see for cheap, and it works very well. One major improvement over the kitchen sharpener, besides it's size, it that the reverse side has ceramic polishing stones set at a similar angle to the carbide hones, allowing you to hone your blade to surgical sharpness.

One item to observe is is keeping the blade perpendicular to the tool and having a good grip on both the blade and this little tool. That's why it's got the overmolded rubber grip. Failure to maintain either your grip or the angle will cause you to gouge the blade. Keeping the pressure light will lessen the tendency for the tool or blade to chatter or twist.

It's a well thought our and versatile tool. I highly recommend the addition of this to anyone who carries a knife in the field.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent sharpener   November 15, 2009

Last time I needed my knives sharpened, I took them to a shop and it cost over twenty bucks. This little gem achieved the same result in a few seconds and a handful of swipes. The knife went from tearing a tomato to cutting through it like butter. Could not be happier!

4 out of 5 stars Great little sharpener   March 11, 2009

While it won't create that razors edge from a dull knife that a vice-type Lansky will produce, it's a great tool to keep your edge in good shape. This sharpener isn't designed for heavy lifting and trying to do too much with it, for instance, starting with a hopelessly dull knife, will disappoint you. However, if you are starting with a reasonably sharp knife and just need to touch it up from time to time, you simply won't find a faster, more convenient tool for the job.

If you buy one, avoid using too much downward force on the blade. Excessive force causes an uneven edge that's impossible to correct with this tool, but can be worked out with either a vice-style Lansky or some time on the whetstone. Light pressure is all you need to maintain a very good edge.

Lansky Quick Fix Very good knife sharpener. I like the two stages.
