Product Description Cold Steel Knife w/3 1/4" Fixed Dagger Blade Md: 12CS, Safe Maker push knifes are, without doubt, the finest commercially made push knives in the world. The blade, shaft, and 'T' shaped tang are all drop forged from one piece of AUS 8A Stainless Steel. This process, though costly, eliminates any unwanted sharp edges or surfaces that would irritate the hand or fingers when the knife is clasped in a closed fist, and it produces a better knife, since the subsequent vacuum heat treatment and sub zero quench, renders the blades virtually unbreakable., Type: Fixed Blade Type: Dagger Blade Length: 3 1/4" Length: 5" Steel: AUS 8A Stainless Handle Material: Kraton Weight: 2.5 oz Sheath: Secure-Ex Edge Type: Plain/Serrated, Manufacturer: COLD STEEL, Model: 12CS

Great Quality Product July 2, 2009 Sashasaurus (California) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Perfect little hideaway knife that comes in super handy for working on little projects around the house and at work. Cutting stubborn plastic packaging, poking holes in drywall, twisting to drill out holes in just about anything other than metal. Also great to carry for personal defense. Mine fits in several places on my body and clips onto my purse. Great for women that want to carry something small but effective.
One mean knife April 21, 2010 Z Matzen (FORT WORTH, TX, US) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is one nasty knife. For personal close quarter defense I can't imagine a more ferocious weapon. Just a quick move of the hand and it would no doubt cause tremendous damage. The Safe Maker II does fit firmly in the hand and I can't imagine how anyone could wrench it out of someones hand without seriously injuring themselves, it basically becomes an extension of the users fist. The blade is just about the right size not being too big to get in the way of itself and certainly not too small to be brutaly affective. It is not legal in many places and doesn't leave my house or vehicle but stays close by for a last ditch weapon in case of a home invasion.
Protection for trail runners in mountain lion country November 16, 2009 Kevin K. Sinn 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
As a trail runner in the Sierra, I run alone and sometimes at dusk. The pepper spray I carry on my belt will probably work for predatory bears. However, I figured if I were to be jumped from behind by a mountain lion I'd just as likely end up spraying myself as spraying the mountain lion. Of course, a gun, even a small one, is out of the question for a trail runner. In addition, if a mountain lion were to grab the back of my neck I'd be back to shooting myself, but this time with a gun!
It seemed to me that a lightweight knife with a short handle that wouldn't interfere with my running could be the solution. The Cold Steel Safe Maker II is one answer. It fits on my belt just behind my hip so that the push knife's horizontal handle doesn't rub against my swinging arms. In that location, the knife is readily accessible, faster to grip with its horizontal handle, and easier to stab backward with in my fist. Its sheath fits securely on my rehydration belt, and because it's plastic it's unaffected by sweat. The knife's rubber handle also resists sweat and provides a positive grip. Although the blade is long enough to inflict repelling pain to a lion, the knife's light weight isn't noticeable when I'm running.
This little knife could provide some self defense to those of us who run in mountain lion country.
Wonderful February 21, 2010 David C. (Las Vegas, Nv.) Wonderful product, ColdSteel makes a qualty knife. Strong, well made, small and will make a great additiong to any dive gear. Perfect for a small self defense weapon. You can buy a less expensive knife like this one. But remember you get what you pay for. This Knife Will not fail or break unlike its similar imitations.
Excellent for self defense August 2, 2010 joyousdance (Cottage Grove, OR) I purchased this knife because I am doing a lot of hiking alone. I figured I should be prepared for either a mountain lion attack or bad person attack. I wanted to have something small and not noticeable so I don't wind up scaring everyone on the trail. Based on the review of the trail runner, I purchased this knife and I am quite happy with it. It nestles well in a sports bra and is comfortable enough that I forget it is even there. My only disappointment is the neck chain that comes with it is not quite long enough to allow it to sit down low enough in my sports bra. With the chain on, the top part of the handle protrudes noticeably in my shirt. I have left the chain off and haven't had any problems so far with the knife sliding out of my bra. Of course I am not running with it either. The knife is really tight in the sheath and will require some loosening over time to get it so it isn't so hard to remove the knife. This is a great weapon, and it would be very vicious in a close quarter fight. Because of the shape of the handle, this would be hard for an attacker to get out of your hand. I may wind up going to a local shop that custom makes different length chains for necklaces and get something the right length that is sturdy enough to handle a hard pull. I will need to get the knife loosened enough first, though, because when I tried tugging it loose with the chain, it hurt my neck too much and I couldn't get the knife to release that way. Over time it should loosen up, and I will get my chain then.
